Hawthorne Elementary Today:

Hawthorne Elementary School serves 692 students from preschool through sixth grade with 72 certificated and classified staff. We are committed to collaborating to deliver a rigorous yet engaging instructional program that empowers all students to realize their maximum potential and be prepared for college or a career.

The Hawthorne Team is dedicated to working with all stakeholders to build a solid foundation for students in the areas of AVID, PBS, and Social-Emotional Learning. Digital Literacy and citizenship are taught at all grade levels and technology through innovation is actively encouraged for teaching and learning.

Success is measured by student performances on state assessments, district benchmarks, performance-based assessments, student work samples, and surveys of students, parents, and staff. The English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) is used to track the language acquisition of the English Language Learners' listening, speaking, reading, and writing development.

Our School Mission Statement:

As an AVID elementary school, we believe all students will achieve their full academic potential through student-centered classrooms, standards-based instruction and targeted interventions in a caring, safe, and collaborative learning environment. We are student-centered and commit to be better everyday!

School Goals:

  1. AVID - Room environment, Writing, and Professional Development.
  2. Data Driven Instruction - The teachers will use Essential Standards, pre-assessment, instruction foci with the "Big Four," differentiation, progress monitoring, assessments such as common assessments, district assessments, formative and summative assessments, and intervention to plan instruction.
  3. Designated and Integrated ELD - The teachers will use the 3 Language Commitments (Graphic Organizers, Sentence Frames and Collaborative Conversations) to instruct throughout the day.
