About Us

Hawthorne Elementary is located just off of historic Victoria Avenue.

We are committed to providing our students with high quality instruction aligned with the California Common Core State Standards, opportunities to explore areas of strength and interest, and programs that enhance the educational experience.

As an AVID school, we are committed to making learning more meaningful and engaging.  We believe that instruction in the arts is an important part of a well-rounded educational program.

Digital citizenship and digital literacy are integral parts of our educational program to ensure students are college- or career-ready when they graduate from high school.

Originally founded in 1923, the school was called Independiente School and was located at 9127 Indiana Avenue. In 1959, the school was rebuilt and renamed Hawthorne Elementary School.

Our new facility, located at 2700 Irving Street, was completed in January 2008. Hawthorne is now fully equipped with SmartBoards, ceiling-mounted projectors, wireless access, and student devices at all grades, Hawthorne offers a strong learning program supported by online resources and extensive technology hardware for students and teachers.
